To Obtain a fishing license on line –

Trout fishing, fly fishing or spin casting in the Nantahala River is excellent all season. The Nantahala was the host river for the 2011 USA National Fly Fishing Championships The river is located less than 10 minutes away. (A North Carolina fishing license and Trout stamp is required.)


Nantahala Outdoor Center is less than 20 minutes away & was Voted by Good Morning America and National Geographic Adventure Magazine as the #1 family vacation spot in America for vacations with a splash. The Nantahala River hosted the 2013 World Freestyle Kayaking Championships

They also offer ziplining and other adventures.

Cherokee Harrah’s Casino (approx. 30 minutes)

Coming in 2015! The Valley River Casino & Hotel near Murphy in Cherokee County.  The location is an 85-acre tract of tribal land in the western North Carolina mountains near U.S. 19/74.  includes 60,000 square feet of gaming space.


The Blue Ridge Parkway is located 30 minutes away. There are several nice loop trips where you can view peak season leave colors.

The Smoky Mountain National Park eastern entrance and the Southern entrance by Cades Cove are both less than an hour away

Mountain Water Scenic Byway, 61 miles winding through the Southern Appalachians Hardwood Forest, numerous waterfalls, lakes, and two river gorges (approx. 45 minutes)

The Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway, 649 miles of scenic roadway (approx. 30 minutes)

  • Silver Run Falls, 75 ft fall, 200 yard hike (approx. 45 minutes)
  • Mud Creek Falls, 100 ft falls, no hike required, roadside (approx. 45 minutes)
  • High Falls, 100 ft fall, 1.2 mile hike (approx. 45 minutes)
  • Bridal Veil Falls, a 120 ft drop, no hike required, roadside (approx. 45 minutes)
  • Lower Cullasaja Falls, a 250 ft drop (approx. 45 minutes)
  • Glen Falls is made up of 3 waterfalls all with 60 ft drops (approx. 45 minutes)
  • Leatherwood Falls, 100 ft cascade (approx. 30 minutes)
